Countertop Calculator

Ten feet by 2 feet, a 4 inch splash, and one 30 by 18 inch sink is 23.33 square feet gross, 19.58 square feet net, and 1 slab of a 5 by 5 foot example.

Last updated . The second section starts at zero. Slab size is an example.

A countertop calculator for two straight runs, a splash, and the holes. Area is length times depth. The splash uses the run lengths. Slabs divide the gross by a slab face you type.

Floor area in the same kitchen: flooring calculator. A poured resin on that floor: epoxy calculator.

Counter, splash, and slabs

Depth, splash height, the two cutout sizes, and the slab face are starters so the division can be checked. They are not a brand yield. A hole is cut from a slab you still buy, so the slab count uses counter plus splash, and the net line is what remains after the holes.

Gross, holes, and slabs

Each section is its length times its depth. The opening section is 10 × 2 = 20.00 square feet. Section 2 opens at a length of 0, so it adds nothing until you type a length. The splash is the summed run length times the height. Four inches on 10 feet is 10 × 4 ÷ 12 = 3.333… square feet, which displays as 3.33. Gross is 23.333…, displayed as 23.33.

A 30 by 18 inch sink is 2.5 × 1.5 = 3.75 square feet. Net is gross minus the openings, 19.58 square feet on the opening job. The slab count does not use that net. The hole is sawn from a slab that was purchased whole, so slabs round up the gross divided by the slab face. A 5 by 5 foot example is 25 square feet, and 23.33 ÷ 25 rounds up to 1. Add a 6 foot second run at the same 2 foot depth and the gross becomes 37.33, which takes 2 of those slabs. The 5 by 5 face, the 2 foot depth, and the cutout rectangles are labeled examples.

Countertop questions

What does the opening counter measure?

Leave section 1 at 10 ft by 2 ft, section 2 length at 0, splash height at 4 in, one sink at 30 in by 18 in, cooktop count at 0, and the slab at 5 ft by 5 ft. Counter reads 20.00 ft² · 1.86 m². Backsplash reads 3.33 ft² · 0.31 m². Gross reads 23.33 ft² · 2.17 m². Cutouts reads 3.75 ft² · 0.35 m². Net reads 19.58 ft² · 1.82 m². Slabs reads 1.

What if a second run is 6 feet long?

Set section 2 length to 6 ft and leave its depth at 2 ft. Leave the splash, the sink, and the 5 by 5 slab. Counter reads 32.00 ft² · 2.97 m². Backsplash reads 5.33 ft² · 0.50 m². Gross reads 37.33 ft² · 3.47 m². Cutouts stays 3.75 ft² · 0.35 m². Net reads 33.58 ft² · 3.12 m². Slabs reads 2, because 37.33 divided by 25 rounds up.

Does a cooktop change the slab count?

On the opening counter, set the cooktop count to 1 and leave it at 30 in by 20 in. Gross stays 23.33 ft² · 2.17 m². Cutouts reads 7.92 ft² · 0.74 m². Net reads 15.42 ft² · 1.43 m². Slabs stays 1. The hole is cut out of material you still purchase, so slabs follow the gross, not the net.

What if the slab size is cleared?

Clear slab length and slab width. Leave the 10 by 2 foot section, the 4 inch splash, and the sink. Counter, backsplash, gross, cutouts, and net stay on the numbers in the first answer. Slabs reads Enter a slab size.

What if the splash height is zero?

Set the backsplash height to 0 and leave the opening section and the one sink. Backsplash reads 0.00 ft² · 0.00 m². Gross reads 20.00 ft² · 1.86 m². Net reads 16.25 ft² · 1.51 m². Slabs reads 1.

What if the cutouts are bigger than the counter?

Set the sink length to 120 in and the sink width to 120 in, with the count still 1, and leave section 1 at 10 ft by 2 ft. The form stops and reads Those sink and cooktop openings cover more than the counter.

Are the 2 foot depth and the 5 by 5 slab a product size?

No. Depth, splash height, both cutout rectangles, and the slab face are filled so the arithmetic can be checked. Type the depth on your drawing and the face of the slab you were quoted. This page does not store a price.
